Betty Quinlan could feel the eyes of the boutique owner on her, but she could care less. So she had been in here for two hours and had bought nothing. Anyone with half a brain knew it was good publicity if Betty Quinlan shopped in your store - whether she bought something or less.
She continued to ignore the owner and airily sorted through the blouses. Would this make her look fat? Probably. This one's too low-cut. Uh, peasant blouses? No one wears those anymore. Hadn't the other girls said this was a -cool- boutique?
Betty had no intention of actually buying anything in this store. She was merely wasting some time at the mall - truthfully, hiding out from her friends. All they cared about now was college. Betty felt sick just thinking about it. College. Her friends now spent their time filling out college applications, trying out for scholarships, and - the worse yet - actually visiting the prospective universities. It was all beginning to annoy Betty. Especially the pressure. Everybody was expecting so much from Betty - class president each year of high school, captain of the cheerleading squad since sophomore year, leading lady in every drama club production since that time she was Lady Macbeth. And everybody expected Betty to get into the best school possible.
And Betty, personally, could care less. For Betty had decided that she wasn't going to go to college. At least not right away. The airline tickets were already in her dresser at home - she had been planning this since June. The second she graduated, Betty was getting on that plane and flying out to Europe. Sorry, Daddy, no Harvard for me. Nope, Mom, I'm going to Paris! Sorry girls - you'll be planning your sorority parties without me.
She could see their faces once she told them the news, and she wasn't looking forward to it. So Betty found it necessary to avoid her friends and family at all cost - find something to keep her occupied for the rest of the year. She would start by shopping. Maybe something would come to her in the air-conditioned hype of the mall.
Would you looky here, Betty thought to herself, looking up from the pink off-the-shoulder she was holding, Look who just walked through the door. My distraction for the year...
Placing a big "sincere" smile on her face, Betty rushed over excitedly to the sophomores she had just decided to make her projects for the year...

The weather outside had been unbearable, one way or another. Either the sun was shining brutally or the breeze was ruffling her hair horribly. This, of course, was aggravated; although she wasn’t any sort of priss, Cindy had spent some time on it this morning and didn’t especially want it ruined. It was down, for once, but this made it even more possible to mess it up.
Then again, Cindy was one who tended to be easily annoyed.
She strolled alongside her best friend, Libby Folfax, her eyes browsing the shops as they walked along. Boring... boring... boring... there was nothing here. She sighed, rolling her eyes and sticking her hands dully into the pockets of her capris.
The mall’s temperature was pleasantly cool with no breeze, quite desireable, in Cindy’s opinion. The smile on her lips was faint, yet slightly amused as her eyes fluttered over a pair of freshmen gleefully holding hands as they walked. Ha. It was almost pathetic. And yet... She removed her glance from the merry teens and it fell upon the boutique across from them.
The smile remained on her face as they stepped inside. It was nice to be out of the open mall, she found. She glanced at the racks of clothes briefly... but then, her eyes fell on the last person she ever wanted to see, no matter the time, no matter the place. Betty “Beautiful-and-Perfect” Quinlan. Miss “Neutron’s-All-Yours-But-I’ll-Flirt-With-Him-Regardless”. Betty, frankly, had the power to make Cindy angrier than anyone else on Earth; probably because of her power over Cindy’s boy genius.
Well... umm... not her boy genius... she didn’t want him to be...
Whatever.
“Betty.” Cindy spat sourly, looking the senior up and down with a critical eye.

Betty had to hold in laughter at Cindy's obvious distaste, and she feared she didn't do a very good job as she felt the smile on her face grow noticeable larger. Was Cindy still holding a grudge against her? And what for? Because she danced with Jimmy at a party years ago? Because she got to play Lady Macbeth to his lead? Because the poor sophomore genius was pathetically smitten with Betty?
Sometimes Betty felt like telling Cindy what she had known for ages. That Jimmy liked Cindy, not her. It was an eerie habit of Betty's - she could always tell when two people liked each other. And no matter how hard Jimmy and Cindy tried to hide it, no two people liked each other as they did.
But sometimes it was just too much fun to see Cindy angry.
Green is not your color, Cindy, Betty thought to herself, hiding the smirk behind her smile.
"Cindy!" She said, gleefully, "Libby! Fancy seeing you guys here." She hugged both of them in a gesture of girly greeting, still holding the shirt she had been looking at in her hand.
"You'll love this boutique," She oozed, "Nothing's really caught my eye - it's all rather gaudy actually - and it's rather expensive - maybe out of your range. But the sale rack's over there." She waved her hand briefly in the direction of the sale rack. "You'll love it."
Ouch. Betty knew it was a bit mean, but she couldn't help it. It was just so fun to see Cindy steam.

Betty Quinlan hugged her. It was absolutely revolting, no doubt, nearly enough to make Cindy vomit. How positively disgusting. Cindy made a face over Betty’s shoulder, nearly wanting to shiver with revoltion.
Not that she’d ever thought about it, but really the only reason Cindy had to hate the girl before her was because of Neutron. Stupid Neutron. Whom she honestly hated. Really. She did. But at Betty’s next words... another hatred was sparked that had previously not existed; perhaps because Cindy didn’t spend very much time at all around Betty.
“Excuse me?”
Her voice was quite distasteful and rude. Betty... was such a snob. “What are you suggesting?” There was nothing in Cindy’s words that implied she cared how rude and up-front she was being with Miss Perfect. Frankly, because she didn’t.
Hands on her hips, she backed a step from Betty, danger lurking prominently in her glare as she sized up the cheerleader. So long had she wanted to do something to ruin that sickeningly “flawless” face...
The question was, why did it have to be Betty that got all the “affection”?

Betty laughed - oh yes, this was too fun. "Cindy, Cindy! Calm down!" She touched Cindy lightly on the arm in an act of comfort. "That's not what I meant! I'm just saying the prices are rather steep, that's all." She held up the off-the-shoulder and stared at it sadly, "This thing's going for $85, and it's pretty simple. The sequining obviously hasn't been done well - I wouldn't have paid a cent over $50."
She smiled sweetly at Cindy. "However..." She turned and acknowledged the saleswoman for the first time. "Excuse me, miss! Do you have this in green?" She handed the shirt over to the saleswoman, who ventured into the backroom in search of a greener shirt.
Betty turned back to Cindy and Libby, flipping her hair casually as she did. She threw them another pearly smile. "So - how have you guys been?" She nudged them playfully. "Any new beaus for the two of you?"
Inwardly she smirked, mentioning the girls' lovelife would get a rise out of them.
(OOC: They don't seem so crappy to me!)

Cindy’s nature had always been to be defensive, though the fact that Betty may not have purposely made a jab at Cindy’s pride rattled her suspicions a bit. Her eyes were narrowed dangerously, though a nauseatingly sweet smile replaced the glower on her face as Betty made the comment about expensive clothing that was altogether true, she hated to admit. “Yes, of course.” Her eyebrows raised slightly as she nodded her head slowly once, acknowledging Betty as an inferior. Although not as experienced, Cindy was sure she could also play this game.
Her face, however, turned downward at the mention of “beaus”. Oh how Cindy loathed that word. Of course there were no beaus! Betty knew there were no beaus! Previous conversations with the older girl had proven that she thought she knew where Cindy’s affections lay... a claim which, of course, Cindy avidly denied. Was there a person on this earth to whom she didn’t deny it?
“Fine.” Cindy responded quickly to the first question with a curt flip of the hair in an attempt to move it from her eyes. “As for beaus... I’m not so sure about Libby at this point...” She took the time to wink at Libby gleefully (of course, this playful gesture was in no way associated with Betty). She knew of her best friend’s situation with Sheen, though Cindy wasn’t sure if he and Libby were officially together. “-but I’m single.”
A sudden revalation pulled her comeback out of the gutter, though. Her face brightened almost intelligibly as her mind wrapped around what she could (and would) say. “Though I’m sure if I hadn’t turned down Nick Dean last year that wouldn’t be a problem.” she added, waving a hand dismissively as she spoke. There was a definite uncaring and casual air in her voice, and a minutely smug smile crept slowly across her face. Take that, Boy-Genius-Stealer.
{ o o c : Thanks! *blush* }

Betty's smile fell at Cindy's mention of Nick Dean. Though he was sophomore, he was the most popular boy in school, and therefore the most logical choice of boy for Betty to date. But due to Betty's refusal to ask him out (it was one of the rules of popularity that she lived by - never ask a boy out; let him do the work), and what her friend's deemed Nick's reluctance, they hadn't yet hooked up.
It was a cheap shot, mentioning Nick, but Betty was known to take cheaper, so she had to admit that Cindy's comeback was a pretty good one. So she quickly regained her smile and gabbed on.
"Oh, lucky you!" She gushed, "He's a cutie, isn't he? Probably the only sophomore I'd ever date- well," She paused here and giggled, "Maybe not..." She made eye contact with Cindy, maintaining it long enough for the other girl to understand exactly who she meant with that. Conflicting feelings hit her immediately - she really had no intention of dating Neutron, but, then again, if the opportunity arose...she might...if only to light a fire under Cindy.
She lifted her eyes from Cindy's and laughed again, tossing her dark brown hair over her shoulder. "But isn't that the case with all of us? None of us have to be single. I mean, I know I've got tons of boys who like me." Her eyes were full of content and perhaps a hint of malice when she brought them back to meet Cindy's again, to ensure once more that Cindy knew precisely which boy she was hinting at.

Jimmy walked through Retroville mall eyeing the stores as he passed. He was not frequently at the mall but his mother had given him some money to buy some new clothes for the school year. Jimmy guessed she was getting sick of seeing his red t-shirt with the yellow atom on it.
Jimmy was extremely bored and wasnt really paying attention. He was thinking about inviting Carl, Sheen, Cind-umm vortex and libby to his lab later on. Hmm he would have to see where today leads. This was really getting on Jimmy's nerves. He had been her an hour an a half and hadnt picked up one new piece of clothing. Jimmy stopped at a bench and sat down just looking around.
'Wait a minute' he thought looking into boutique in front of him. 'Is that? It is' He saw Libby Cindy and Betty. And it didnt look like they were having a 'friendly' conversation judging by Cindy's look.
(o.o.c sorry if it wasnt that good that was my first post as Jimmy, well I'll get better as time goes on!)

Cindy’s eyes narrowed and her lips tightened a bit. This caused them to become even small than they usually were, which was indeed saying something, seeing as Cindy’s lips were in general little “rosebuds, as they had once been referred to as. With her intelligence level, she knew full well what the little brunette snake was playing at.
That thought out of the way, she tilted her chin upward in a superior fashion, attempting to look down her nose at Betty; not too much of a smooth move, seeing as Betty was taller than Cindy.
Brushing a curl out of her emerald eyes, she briskly nodded her head. “Yes, I suppose that is the case, though lucky isn’t exactly the word I’d use. There are better men than Nick out there.” But what was supposedly a shot at Betty Cindy discovered too late that she was leaving herself wide open... again. Though none of her frustration showed through to her pale features, inside she cursed and stomped and yelled at herself irrationally. “As for martial status... Indeed. That may be the case.” Her voice was purposely nonchalant as she attempted to keep her pride and composure.
Her eyes wandered past Betty suddenly, traveling beyond the boutique doorway, which they were still blocking. It was a good thing no one else had thought to enter the shop. Her cheeks couldn’t help but flush a bit pinker, though she did a good job of covering it up after a brief touch of her eyes to his. It was just like Neutron to show up at the worst times. She looked hurriedly back to Betty, resuming her slick and collected attitude immediately.
{ o o c : *wistful sigh* Okay guys, I just finished watching "Shall We Dance"... second most romantic movie in the world. Beautiful. End of story. Sorry, had to get that out. By the way, for the record, the most romantic is, hands down, "Strictly Ballroom". *cough* Continue! }

Betty was still bristling from Cindy's comment about Nick. Better men than Nick? Perhaps out there in the world, but at Retroville High...well, perhaps for Cindy. But popular went with popular, and so Betty went with Nick, just as smart Jimmy went wonderfully with smart Cindy.
Betty was ready to shoot back a retort to knock Cindy back in her place, but Betty was also a very observant girl. She saw Cindy's eyes dart, she saw her cheeks redden, and she saw Cindy trying to pass it off as nothing. Her curiosity intrigued her, and Betty turned her head slowly to see what Cindy was staring at.
Lo and behold, Jimmy Neutron himself. Oh boy, Betty thought, this is going to be great.
She turned back to Cindy and smirked, "Well, speak of the devil."
Flipping her hair once more - she never got tired of that trick, it drove people crazy - she turned around to face Jimmy and waved. "Jimmy Neutron, is that you?" She giggled flirtatiously, "Come over and talk with us!" She beckoned him over, throwing in an obvious wink. She then looked back Cindy, an almost triumphant look in her eyes. This should get interesting...
(OOC: I'm having way too much fun being evil Betty. -.-;; And I'll have to check out those movies, Halfa! I'm addicted to romantic flicks - "Gone With The Wind"'s my favorite...but there's also "The Notebook" and "A Walk To Remember", those are classics...)

Cindy honestly could have smacked herself. And Betty. But at a loss of which to choose, she hit neither, but sat and fumed instead. That witch... but then, Cindy should have expected it. She had to restrain herself horribly; her facial expressions wanted to go absolutely haywire on her. She wanted to glower, glare, scream, shout... anything to make it go away.
But she knew she couldn’t. She’d made a mistake, no matter how cooincidental said mistake had been. “Speak of the... ugh.” she muttered as she eyed Betty. Though when the girl called at Jimmy, it was all Cindy could do not to high-tail it the other way. Sure she could have handled him normally, but around Betty he was intolerable.
But Betty was very pretty, according to the men. And Cindy was just... Cindy. She was boyishly athletic and always had been... she didn’t much care about her physical appearance half the time (note the prominent half)... she had an attitude to be reckoned with, for sure. She was anything but pretty, according to her own personal thoughts.
Inside there was a debate. She could say she had piano, singing, dance, anything to get out of this situation. But then, she could tough it out, which was much more Cindy’s style. Biting just the top of her bottom lip, she decided to stay just where she was. She had Libby with her; she would be just fine.
{ o o c : Ballroom dancing = Most romantic thing in the world. Man, I am a SUCKER! But everyone join Miss Martin's ballroom dancing classes anyway because it's destined to be fun, alright? I've been watching too many ballroom dancing movies lately. Sad.
Both those movies made me CRY!! I haven't seen all of Gone With The Wind because no one in my family EVER wants to watch it, but I'm going to see it!! The parts I have seen have had me absolutely hooked. I read the book, though, which was absolutely beautiful. }

'Oh no she didn't!' Libby thought when she saw Betty call Jimmy over to them. 'That witch is gonna get it for sure!'
Libby, who had stayed out of the whole conversation, decided that it was time to step in and put her foot down. Usually, she wouldn't bother to get in the middle of the girls' arguments, but she was messing with Cindy's love life...and Libby couldn't just stand by and watch her best friend get trampled by the beautiful and popular senior.
"Uh, excuse me? Betty?" Her voice dripping with almost as much hate as she knew that Cindy felt at the moment, she continued, glaring her straight in the eye. "Do you have a problem with my girl Cindy?"
She laughed sarcastically. "Because then you have a problem with me. And your senoir friends wouldn't be able to help you there..."
Libby jumped at a noise behind her, only to realize that it was the bell on the door ringing as someone entered the boutique.
Libby turned back to Betty and continued. "It's amazing how popular you are." Libby was amazed at how calm her voice had came out. With everything said, she walked over to a nearby bench to sit down and pressed her hands together, waiting for someone to say something.

Betty actually jumped as Libby began to talk to her. This rapid fire battle of wits and, now that Jimmy had arrived on the scene, charm with Cindy had made her totally oblivious to the other girl. It seemed as though Libby wanted to join the battle, which was a problem Betty had rarely come across. And it wasn't like Cindy - where just mentioning Jimmy would get a rise out of her. Libby's potential love interest, Sheen, (were they together yet? Betty made a mental note to check in with her gossip provider) had never shown any interest in Betty. One of the few boys in the school not to.
Betty stared after Libby, a bit shocked. How to handle this one? But before she could make a move, the saleswoman was back, carrying the green shirt in her hand. She handed it over to Betty sourly.
Betty stared at it for a moment, then nodded as she remembered what she was doing with this blouse. She handed it back to lady and fished her credit card out of her purse. She tossed the card to the lady, who caught it eagerly. "Go ring it up - wrap it up, too." As the saleswoman scuttled away, Betty recomposed herself, putting on a smile and skipping over to Libby.
"Libby, Libby, Libby," She said, soothingly, "There's no problem here. Cindy and I are just having a friendly little...chat. Right, Cindy?" She turned and smiled at Cindy. Gonna lose your cool in front of Neutron? Go ahead...
Sparing one more thought for Libby, she turned back and grinned, choosing to misinterpret the girl's last words. "And yes, it IS amazing how popular I am."

Cindy’s mouth tightened once more, neck extending as she pulled up from casual to ballet pose; straight back, straight neck, level chin... yet with her feet still flat on the ground, of course. She looked more steady, more confident... more fierce. Her flared nostrils and curled lips made for the perfect sneer as she watched the popular girl toss her credit card. Nothing about this “chat” was “friendly”. But dignity came before pride this time, as this was no normal person she was dealing with. This was Betty Quinlan, beauty of Retroville High.
She made no other moves for a moment, exempt from lowering her shoulders a bit. “Yes, a friendly little chat.” Her words oozed their familiar sarcasm, as did her face as she surveyed the older girl yet again. Ah, yes, this was going to get interesting.
Her slender fingers wrapped around one another and for a moment, her eyes darted to Libby, to whom she gave a thanking glance. No matter the situation, it was always nice to have your best friend standing up for you. But then, that was Cindy and Libby. They truly did care about one another. That was best girl friends for you. Cindy let her mouth loose again, loosing a bit of the tense appearence, unknowingly for better or worse. Betty was good, she’d give her that, but good enough?
We’ll have to see about that, now, won’t we?
{ o o c : Ah, ah, ah... invisible female blows... all too familiar... I shall await replies while dancing about my kitchen now! Must... practice... ballet... Or else I can't have my community college ballroom class. That would be tragic. Actually, I should be reading my driver's manuel... either way... I'll stop rambling. But I would love it if people would embarress Cindy in the studio by walking in on her. I'd like to play full out anger, if ya'll are up to it. ^^ Luv you all, honestly. }

Jimmy gulped when he heard betty call him over. 'Oh no' he thought he was not getting into this. He knew Betty and Cindy were not good when they were together. And he certainly didnt want to get in the middle of it.
Betty was motioning and winking for him to come over. He was stuck. what would they think if he just walked away. Jimmy sighed and slowly made his way over to the boutique. He entered and spotted the 3 girls. Jimmy cautiously made his way over to them. "Hey" he timidly said.
